I know fall is the best time to seed grass, but I have some strips along the edges of the flower beds that I need to sow. They are bare because I made the beds smaller last fall. They were getting out of hand. I want grass that is green all year, too.
Thanks,

What's the best way to plant grass in the spring?
This sounds like it is a small area---if that is the case I would opt for buying a couple of rolls of sod and patching it in with your existing grass. Seed will always be less expensive than sod, but for an small area the benefits of sod are worth spending a couple extra bucks. First, the sod will give you grass immediately. Second, the sod is easier to take care of---it will require less watering while your getting it to "take" in your yard than the seed. And last, you are almost guaranteed a thick rich lawn for years to come. Most nursery and even some big box stores will have sod on hand in the spring so you can just go in and buy a couple of rolls, and haul them in the trunk of your car. One final tip: remember when you plant the sod---the green side is planted up!
