What is the meaning of a May and December love affair?

I am inquiring about love relationships shared between two people, who's ages are more 15 -20 years apart. Example; In May the spring brings flowers, but come December in the winter they are all gone. Thus, something /someone born in december will never see the may flowers in bloom. Is this right?

What is the meaning of a May and December love affair?
...you've answered your own question... kinda-sorta like Anna Nicole (Smith) "May", who married the 90 year old man, "December"...
Reply:it just means that one person's near the beginning of their life and the other's closer to the end...
Reply:young and old, like night and day.
Reply:I know! its the opposite of a January-May romance, I think it comes from one of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales where an older man-January was courting a younger woman-May, sooo Since Jan is before May, it is a romance between an older man and a younger woman, a May-December romance is the opposite since the woman is older and May comes before December HTH! I don't know if your explanation is right but it does seem like it could be
Reply:no it does not work in this way.. this is just a myth !!
