To cover or not to cover?

I am in Illinois and have cleaned out all flower beds this spring. Almost all my flowers are coming up, and some have bloomed. Now next week is calling for highs during the day in the 30's-do I need to cover?

To cover or not to cover?
I think it would depend on the type of flowers and how many that are coming up. Are they bulb flowers? Are they ones you just planted this year? If you did plant them, yes, you should definitely cover them, especially after all the work you did. Temps that are going to be above 32 shouldn't really hurt some flowers. It's the frosts and freezes that do some flower in, especially this early in the season.

I live in an area where we don't even think about planting any flowers until the third week in May. So I think it will be your own preference at to cover or not to cover. Some flowers are hardier than others.

My personal choice would be, if they are season long bloomers....cover them up. If they are very short lived bloomers and you have a lot, I wouldn't bother.
Reply:I do not mulch anything. Whatever is up is supposed to be up.

Anything that far up has the ability to cope with cold.
Reply:sure, why not, just be on the safe side =]
