New to northwest Georgia, would like suggestions for flower plantings?

I love the spring bulbs. I love flowers but, I am not familiar with what works well in an area with red clay, drought, %26amp; high heat considered to be zone 8. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you're talking about bulbs, you should be able to grow most bulbs because you get enough cold weather to make it worthwhile to plant them. Tulips, crocuses, daffodils, etc. should all do well in your area.

In the summer in full sun areas avoid plants like begonias which will wilt. Stick to pansies and vinca and geraniums and marigolds (marigolds do great in high heat!).

Check out your neighbors flower beds to see what they are having success with. You might also amend your soil some by adding some peat moss to lighten it up some.
Reply:Hi:

I live in South Carolina and there are many different perennial and annual flowers you could plant. You live in climate zone eight, which means your ground doesn't freeze. There are a variety of flowers that will do well in full sun and some in shaded areas.

Panies are a main flower in the winter time in your area. They are an annual but have muliple colors available.

There are many different kinds of day lilies that do well, sedum, coneflower, vinca and dianthus are just a few. I will link you to the gallery of plants section of my website. There is a page on annual flowers and perennial flowers you might be interested in. There are also trees and shrubs that have photos as well as descriptions and climate zones. Browse through as many of these plant specimens will work in your area. Also consider planting some flowering herbs.

I will also link you to the site map, as this page has everything that is on the website. Browse through and see if there are any tips, techniques or other articles that could provide more information to you. Good luck to you. Add some mushroom compost to your soil if planting in the ground. This is an organic fertilizer that will last up to one year. It doesn't smell great but your flowers will love it. Have a great day!
