How big is my poisettia going to grow?

I've had this plant 4 and a half years now, repotted it a few times and it just keeps getting bigger. I've had to put it in an outside planter, it's too big to keep in the house. The thing even flowered this spring with no special lighting conditions or feeding. I would hate for it to die, what can I do? I don't think it will like it out there.

Max height about 16ft !

You must have green fingers.

Your lucky you've still got it, most people can't keep them more than a few weeks after christmas.

I would just keep trimming it back to a decent height and shape, then maybe try and root a few of them as cuttings so you can give them away to friends.

If you keep pinching out the ends aswell you will be able to get it to grow bushy at a smaller size.
Reply:we have one and we cut it down when the flowering stops, then we cut it down see attached article

To keep poinsettias blooming for many holidays, the plant needs to be pruned one-third their size after they have flowered. The pruning is usually done in the summer after the 1st of September.

Poinsettias bloom according to the length of the day. When the days become shorter the flowers are formed. Poinsettias don't actually have true flowers; the red petals are called bracts, which are a kind of modification of leaves, and are what we mistake for flowers. The true bloom of the poinsettia is actually found in the middle of the bracts and they are very tiny.

hope this helps
Reply:The plant will thrive outdoors in the warmer weather but if you live in a climate in which you get any sort of cold weather you'll ned to bring it back inside before it turns cold. That plant will grow as big as you let it ,the bigger the pot it's in the bigger it will get.
Reply:Poinsettias can be trimmed several times during the growing season to encourage bushiness. The last pruning should be done in early September.
