Been a while since I've posted a Haiku, what do you think?

Spring flowers emerge,

White rabbit now turns to brown--

Always there's lament.

Been a while since I've posted a Haiku, what do you think?
The Haiku is perfect in form, but I don't understand the relationship of the last verse to the other two. The emergence of spring flowers indicates new life, as does the brown rabbit coat, now that it no longer needs protection from the elements. So, why the lament, it just doesn't seem to follow.

With the edit, it now makes sense to me. Thanks.
Reply:I'm with Elaine on this.....is there a deep, serious point being made about the White rabbit changing its winter coat? If the rabbit represents man - the only thing I can think of is people who are white sunbathing to turn brown. Is that what is lamentable? (I hope not I am a sun-worshipper)

The jury is still out, as far as I am concerned, in regard to Haikus. What may work in Japanese sits uneasily with our language structure.

But, what the heck, lots of people like them (so shut up Jill)
Reply:This is very good.

I have spent the last week in the mind of Dr. Glenn Swetman. He is an American poet who’s medaled in Hai'ku competitions in Japan. He has written many poems in English that are based around the principles of Hai'ku. Brilliant. His next book (published by Tangled Web Press) will be an eye-opener for the poetry world...TD
Reply:Funny how we interpret poems differently. I saw the white rabbit representing winter (the color of snow) - and turning to brown as Spring appears. There's always a death as a season changes - hence the lament.
Reply:I get it that you feel the white rabbit, jackrabbits as we called them, do not wish to part with their rainments of white. Clever and funny.
Reply:Here I am, half awake, waiting for coffee...reading a most delightful KU..and you and Elaine are arguing over wunny babbits? OK...sigh and mutter. Must add: Oh, what habits we share with rabbits.
Reply:I like it. Its cool. Are you saying that eventhough Spring is here, there is still hate and discourse in society (IDK just a stab).

Reply:are you being ironic? lamenting in springtime- a time of new life seems pretty ironic to me.
Reply:There's is a bit of a stretch to count as just one syllable.
